How to use your Patina

That is what the design duo Broberg & Ridderstråle say about their Patina oil lamps.
The lamp is made of steel and is available powder-coated in white, grey, black, and blue, as well as with a copper finish. The included glass is clear, but frosted glass is also available for purchase separately. The copper lamp develops a beautiful patina over time if it is not polished. It is the original and the basis for the name Patina.
Below is a short guide on how to handle your Patina before its first use and beyond.

Ensure the container is well-filled before first use. However, make sure not to fill it all the way to the brim, as there is a risk of overflow when you screw the burner back on. We recommend high-quality lamp oil from brands such as Kemetyl and Nitor.

Screw on the burner and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Check that it has become moist on top.

For an even and clean flame, make sure the wick is level with the edge of the burner. Trim with scissors if necessary.

When lighting the wick, only 1-2 mm of it should be visible above the edge of the burner. The wick should never be turned up higher than this, as the wick itself will then burn instead of just the oil.
Also ensure that the container never becomes completely empty so that the wick dries out. In such a case, the wick itself will burn, and you may need to start over with a new one. If you burn the lamp according to these instructions, you should never need to replace your wick.
Finally, keep in mind that the glass becomes very hot when you are using the lamp. The easiest way to extinguish your Patina is to blow out the flame. Alternatively, turn down the wick until the flame is smothered.
